Adding trucks
Adding your trucks lets 10-4 Hauler add up revenue, expenses and profit for each one.
Add a truck
- Tap the Fleet tab.
- Scroll to the Trucks section and tap + Add truck.
- Type a Unit # or name, like 104 or Big Mack. This is the only box you have to fill in. It's the name you'll pick on jobs and expenses.
- Under What kind of truck?, tap one big button: Dump truck, Box truck, Semi truck, Flatbed truck, Tow truck, Pickup truck, Cargo van / Sprinter van, or Other. If you pick Other, you can name it in What kind?, or leave that box blank. You can still save with just the unit name or number.
- To enter anything else, open Add details (optional) for the Year, Make & model, Plate and VIN.
- Add the dates you need to keep track of: Registration expires and Annual DOT inspection due.
- Check the insurance line. It says Insurance renews: uses company date with your company's renewal date, or not set if you haven't added one yet. Most trucks just use the company date, so there's nothing to fill in.
- Only if this truck is on a different insurance policy, or renews on a different day, check This truck is on a different policy / date and pick its date in This truck's insurance renews.
- Tap Save truck. Its card shows up in the Trucks section with its type. The type also appears in the Trucks sheet of your Excel download.
Use the same name everywhere. When you type in the Truck box on a job or expense, your trucks come up as suggestions. Picking the same name each time keeps each truck's profit accurate.
You can also type a new truck name directly on a job. Saving the job adds the truck automatically, subject to your existing truck limit. If the name looks like an existing truck after ignoring case, spaces and dashes, an in-page prompt offers Yes, use [truck name] or No, add new truck before anything is saved. With one truck, the job form selects it and hides the Truck box; with several, it starts with the last truck used.
Insurance renewal dates
Most small fleets have one insurance policy that renews for every truck on the same day. So you set that date once for the whole company, in Settings under Your business, in Insurance policy renewal date. See Account settings.
- Every truck uses the company date unless you check This truck is on a different policy / date on that truck.
- A truck with its own date uses that date instead. Uncheck the box to put it back on the company date.
- The Insurance line on each truck's card, the renewal alerts and your Excel download all show the date that applies to each truck. Trucks on their own date say (own policy).
- 30 days and again 7 days before a renewal date, you'll see a reminder on your Dashboard and get one email. Trucks that renew on the same day are listed together in one email, not one email per truck.
Just renewed? Change the date in Settings (or on the truck, if it has its own) so the next reminder comes on time.
Change or remove a truck
- On the Fleet tab, tap Edit truck on the truck's card. If its type is blank, you can also tap Add truck type. Older trucks keep working without a type; you do not have to add one.
- Change anything you need and tap Save truck. If you change the unit number, your jobs and expenses with the old name are updated too.
- To remove it, tap Delete and confirm. Jobs you already logged keep the unit number.
See how each truck is doing
The top of the Fleet tab shows Profit by truck for the month. See Reading your dashboard to learn what each column means.
