A hot shot and long haul trucking app for miles, fuel and profit
On long runs, the money comes down to miles: how many you drove loaded, how many you drove empty, and what each one cost. 10-4 Hauler keeps your load numbers, odometer readings and fuel in one place and shows your profit per mile, without turning into a dispatch system.
Plans start at $5 a month per truck, 30-day free trial, no card needed.
Load numbers and odometer miles on every trip
When a job's type of work is Long haul or Hot shot, the job form adds a Load & odometer section:
- Load number: type the broker's load number or the BOL number. The search box on the Jobs tab finds a job by it, across every month.
- Starting miles: the odometer when the trip starts. On a new job it fills in with that truck's last ending miles, so you only check it.
- Ending miles: the odometer when you're done. Leave it blank while you're still rolling and the job shows an In progress tag. Fill it in later.
- Total miles is figured for you: 412,890 ending − 412,350 starting = 540 miles. If the ending reading is lower than the start, the form tells you before you save.
Loaded miles and deadhead miles, kept apart
Add loaded miles and empty (deadhead) miles to each job. Both burn fuel and wear tires, but usually only loaded miles pay. Keeping them apart shows how much of your driving earns nothing. The dashboard shows your empty miles and their share of all miles, so you can see if the deadhead is creeping up.
Paid by the mile? Choose By the mile and your pay is your loaded miles times your rate. Fuel surcharge and broker fees are handled too, so the number you see is what you actually make on the load.
Fuel and miles per gallon
Log each fill-up as a fuel expense with its gallons, or snap a photo of the receipt and 10-4 Hauler reads the amount and gallons for you. The dashboard then shows your miles per gallon, the gallons you bought and your average price per gallon. Only fuel counts toward MPG, so DEF and snacks from the truck stop don't throw it off.
Profit per mile, every month
Once your jobs have miles, the dashboard shows these for this month and this year so far:
- Cost per mile: every expense, repeating bills included, plus driver pay, divided by all miles
- Revenue per mile: what you brought in, divided by all miles
- Profit per mile: what you kept, divided by all miles
The job form shows what each trip paid per mile, and the Fleet tab shows miles and profit for each truck. Run two trucks, or a hot shot rig and a semi? You'll see which one is really earning.
Everything else a small outfit needs
Save your brokers with their usual fee, fuel surcharge and pay terms, and see who's past due. Turn trips into PDF invoices with the load number and miles already filled in, and email them from the app. Set up insurance and truck payments once as bills that repeat. Download everything to Excel for your accountant.
What it doesn't do
10-4 Hauler isn't a dispatch system. There's no load board, no ELD and no GPS tracking. It doesn't follow your location, and it doesn't ask for your CDL, medical card or Social Security number. It keeps your trips, miles, fuel and money straight, so you know which loads are worth hauling.
Common questions
Can I track loaded and deadhead miles separately?
Yes. Each job has boxes for loaded miles and empty (deadhead) miles, and the dashboard shows your empty miles and their share of all the miles you drove.
Does 10-4 Hauler track my location with GPS?
No. There's no GPS or location tracking. You type your miles or odometer readings on the job.
How is miles per gallon figured?
All the miles on your jobs divided by the gallons on your fuel expenses. Only expenses in the Fuel category count, so DEF and other purchases don't throw it off.
