Miles and fuel

Add miles to your jobs and gallons to your fuel, and 10-4 Hauler shows your miles per gallon, cost per mile and profit per mile.

Loaded miles vs. deadhead miles

Both burn fuel and wear out tires, but usually only loaded miles pay. Keeping them apart shows how much of your driving earns nothing.

Add miles to a job

  1. Open a job: tap + Add job, or tap Edit on a job in Jobs & loads.
  2. Under How you're paid, fill in Loaded miles and Empty (deadhead) miles.
  3. Tap Save job.

Long haul and hot shot: load number and odometer miles

When a job's Type of work is Long haul or Hot shot, a Load & odometer section shows up in the job form. It stays hidden for dump and aggregate and last-mile work.

412,890 ending − 412,350 starting = 540 total miles

If you also fill in Loaded miles and Empty (deadhead) miles, those are used for cost, revenue and profit per mile, and total miles are shown next to them. If you leave them blank, total miles are used instead. Paid by the mile? Pay still comes from Loaded miles.

Add fuel

  1. Tap the Expenses tab, then + Add expense or 📷 Snap a receipt.
  2. Set the Category to Fuel. The Fuel quick button does it in one tap.
  3. Type the Amount ($) and the Gallons (fuel).
  4. Pick the Truck and tap Save expense.

Log every fill-up with its gallons. Miles per gallon only counts expenses in the Fuel category, so DEF and other purchases don't throw it off.

Where to see the numbers

On the Dashboard, the Month to date and year to date table shows:

RowHow it's figured
Loaded milesTotal loaded miles from your jobs.
Empty (deadhead) milesTotal empty miles, with the share of all miles in brackets.
Total miles (odometer)Ending minus starting miles from your Long haul and Hot shot jobs. Shows once one of them has both readings.
Cost per mileAll expenses (repeating bills included) plus driver pay, divided by all miles, loaded and empty. Jobs with no loaded or empty miles count their odometer total miles.
Revenue per mileRevenue and other income divided by all miles.
Profit per mileProfit divided by all miles.
Miles per gallonAll miles divided by the gallons on your Fuel expenses.
Fuel boughtGallons bought and the average price per gallon.

1,000 loaded + 300 empty = 1,300 miles

1,300 miles ÷ 260 gallons = 5.0 miles per gallon

$3,250 in costs ÷ 1,300 miles = $2.50 a mile

The mile rows show up once at least one job has miles on it. The Fleet tab also shows miles for each truck, and the Add job form shows what that job paid per mile.
